About

This website was created as much for my own personal use and benefit as much as it was created for the benefit of others.

My name is Anton and I have been studying and practicing Judo for the last 20 years. During that time, for the last 15 years I have also been studying and practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in an “on and off again” basis. I have practiced BJJ at one school semi-regularly, but I can’t say that I consistently studied the art with just one school or individual. Instead I would practice with different schools and learn from different Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners. I was never really interested in getting rank in BJJ because I always considered it to be the same as Judo. My view on that is changing as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu changes.

Over the years I have seen Brazilian Jiu Jitsu evolve and become more competitive. More positions and techniques are being discovered and developed and it has gained popularity faster than any other martial art ever has in the United States.

I remember the main reason I became interested in BJJ was to learn how to avoid all of the neck cranks and leg locks I would get caught in. I was consistently being beaten from only these techniques by a few individuals. For the most part I never had any issues dominating the majority of the BJJ practitioners that I worked out with or happened across in seminars except a select few that would beat me with techniques that are illegal in Judo competitions. I have always been interested in self defense so it seemed logical that I should learn more about BJJ because at the time it was more self defense oriented.

As time passed, I saw an increase in the competition aspect of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Now when I work out, I never have to worry about someone cranking my head or throwing a leg lock on me, because classes are more focused on the competition and not the self defense side of the art. Just like Judo, it has evolved into more of a sport and I am expecting to see it become an Olympic sport in the near future.

I hope you find this site useful and informative and any feedback is appreciated. Enjoy!
